Physical Therapy After a Car Accident (PIP & LOP Accepted)

All In One Specialty Health (16191 NW 57 Ave, Suite A, Miami Gardens, FL 33014 · (786) 613-7160) is a bilingual (English/Spanish) outpatient physical therapy clinic that accepts PIP and letters of protection (LOP) for car accident patients from Miami Gardens, Miami Lakes and Hialeah. Physical therapist: Patricia Freire, PT. Hours: Monday, Wednesday and Friday 8 AM–5 PM; Tuesday and Thursday 8 AM–3 PM. For PIP to pay, Florida law requires initial care within 14 days from a medical doctor, osteopathic physician, chiropractor, dentist or APRN, or at a hospital or by emergency services; physical therapy comes after that, with their referral. Physicians located in our building can perform the initial PIP evaluation within 14 days, and we coordinate your therapy plan with them. You can also bring a referral from your own doctor or chiropractor. Same-week appointments are available. Parking is free, and there is a bus stop right in front of the clinic. Who we help

Who we help: car accident patients in Miami Gardens, Miami Lakes and Hialeah

Our Miami Gardens clinic sees adults who are recovering from a crash and have already had their first medical visit. That includes:

Drivers and passengers hurt in a car accident, whoever caused it.
Pedestrians and cyclists struck by a car.
People whose neck or back pain showed up a day or more after the crash.
Patients who want to do their whole recovery in Spanish.
People hurt in a crash while working: workers' compensation may apply instead of PIP, and we accept workers' comp.

We are a physical therapy clinic, not an accident doctor's office. If no one has examined you since the crash, see a medical doctor, osteopathic physician, chiropractor, dentist or APRN, or go to a hospital, before day 14. Then ask for a referral to physical therapy.

PIP in 3 steps

How PIP works for physical therapy in Florida, in 3 steps

Florida's no-fault law sets the order. Following it protects your PIP medical benefits.

  1. 1

    Initial care within 14 days

Within 14 days of the crash, get initial care that is provided, supervised, ordered or prescribed by a medical doctor (MD), osteopathic physician (DO), chiropractor, dentist or an APRN registered for autonomous practice, or care at a hospital or from emergency medical services. A physical therapist cannot give this first visit. Physicians located in our building can perform the initial PIP evaluation within 14 days, and we coordinate your therapy plan with them. You can also bring a referral from your own doctor or chiropractor.

  2. 2

    A referral to physical therapy

Physical therapy under PIP is follow-up care. The provider who saw you (or another qualifying provider) refers you to a licensed physical therapist for care related to their diagnosis.

  3. 3

Your evaluation and plan with us

Bring the referral to our clinic. Your physical therapist evaluates how you move, what hurts and what you need to get back to, and explains a plan in English or Spanish.

What PIP pays

  • PIP pays 80% of reasonable, medically necessary medical expenses, up to your limit.
  • Up to $10,000 if a medical doctor, osteopathic physician, dentist, physician assistant or APRN determines you had an emergency medical condition (EMC).
  • Up to $2,500 if a provider determines you did not have an emergency medical condition. A physical therapist or a chiropractor cannot make the EMC determination.
  • PIP does not pay for massage therapy or acupuncture, no matter who provides them.
  • For PIP, we bill your auto insurer directly. Billing directly does not guarantee coverage: what PIP pays depends on your policy and your claim.

Source: Florida Statutes § 627.736(1)(a). General information, not legal advice or a promise of coverage; your policy decides what is paid.

First visit

Your first visit: what to bring

Bring what you have. If something is missing, call us and we will tell you what we need.

  • A photo ID.
  • Your auto insurance information: policy number and PIP claim number.
  • The referral or prescription for physical therapy from the provider who gave you initial care.
  • Reports or imaging from that visit, if you have them (X-ray, MRI, discharge papers).
  • The crash or police report, if you have it.
  • Your attorney's contact details, if your care is under a letter of protection.

At the first visit your physical therapist asks about the crash and your symptoms, checks your movement, strength and pain, and explains the plan and the next appointments.

Your physical therapist

Who treats you

Physical therapy at All In One Specialty Health is provided by Patricia Freire, PT, physical therapist (individual NPI 1740231075). Her services include manual therapy, post-surgical rehabilitation, balance and vestibular therapy, ultrasound, electrotherapy and low-level laser therapy.

Injuries

Common car accident injuries we treat

These are the problems we see most often after a crash. Your plan depends on your evaluation and your doctor's diagnosis.

Depending on your evaluation, treatment can include manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, ultrasound, electrotherapy and low-level laser therapy, plus a home exercise program.

Go to the emergency room or call 911 for a severe or worsening headache, numbness or weakness in an arm or leg, loss of bladder or bowel control, confusion, or chest or belly pain after a crash.

Other options

No PIP left or someone else was at fault? Letters of protection (LOP)

If your PIP benefits have run out, were denied, or you have a claim against the at-fault driver, a letter of protection may let you continue physical therapy. With an LOP, your treatment is paid later from a settlement or judgment in your injury case. It is usually arranged through your attorney; read the letter, because it explains what you owe and when.

In a lawsuit, Florida law (§ 768.0427(3)) requires disclosing the letter of protection, itemized and coded bills, whether you had health coverage, and whether you were referred for treatment and by whom. Ask your attorney how this applies to your case.

Other coverage may also apply: your health insurance or Medicare (we accept Medicare Part B and several Medicare Advantage plans), or workers' compensation if the crash happened while you were working.

Florida law prohibits paying for patient referrals and soliciting crash victims. If someone contacted you uninvited after a crash to steer you to a clinic or a lawyer, you can report it to the Florida Department of Financial Services, Division of Criminal Investigations (§ 627.736(14)).

We do not accept Medicaid, including Florida Medicaid managed-care plans.

FAQ

Questions about PIP and physical therapy after a car accident

?Do you accept PIP for physical therapy?

Yes. All In One Specialty Health accepts Florida PIP (personal injury protection) for physical therapy after a car accident, and we also accept letters of protection (LOP). For PIP to pay, you first need initial care within 14 days of the crash and a referral for physical therapy from that provider. Call (786) 613-7160 and we will explain the next steps.

?What is the 14-day rule?

Under Florida law (§ 627.736(1)(a)), PIP pays medical benefits only if you get initial care within 14 days after the accident. The clock starts on the day of the crash, not the day the pain starts. That initial care must be provided, supervised, ordered or prescribed by a medical doctor (MD), osteopathic physician (DO), chiropractor, dentist or an APRN registered for autonomous practice, or given at a hospital or by emergency medical services. A physical therapist cannot provide that first PIP visit.

?Do I need a referral for PIP physical therapy?

Yes. Under PIP, physical therapy is follow-up care, and Florida law requires a referral from the provider who gave you initial care or another qualifying provider (§ 627.736(1)(a)2). Bring the referral or prescription to your first visit. Physicians located in our building can perform the initial PIP evaluation within 14 days, and we coordinate your therapy plan with them. You can also bring a referral from your own doctor or chiropractor.

?What's the difference between the $10,000 and $2,500 limits?

PIP medical benefits go up to $10,000 if a medical doctor, osteopathic physician, dentist, physician assistant or APRN determines that you had an emergency medical condition (EMC). If a provider determines that you did not have an emergency medical condition, medical benefits are limited to $2,500. A physical therapist or a chiropractor cannot make the EMC determination. Within the limit, PIP pays 80% of reasonable, medically necessary expenses.

?What if I'm past 14 days?

If you did not get initial care within 14 days, PIP can deny medical benefits. Other coverage may still apply, such as your health insurance, Medicare, workers' compensation if the crash happened while you were working, or a letter of protection if you have a claim against the at-fault driver. Call us to check which of the plans we accept fits your situation, and talk to an attorney about legal questions. This is not legal advice.

?Do you accept letters of protection?

Yes. With a letter of protection (LOP), your treatment is paid later from a settlement or judgment in your injury case, which your attorney usually arranges. In a lawsuit, Florida law (§ 768.0427(3)) requires disclosing the letter, itemized and coded bills, whether you had health coverage, and whether you were referred for treatment and by whom. Ask your attorney how this applies to your case.

?Do you bill PIP directly?

For PIP, we bill your auto insurer directly. Billing directly does not guarantee coverage: what PIP pays depends on your policy and your claim. We review your PIP benefits with you before treatment starts, but we cannot promise approval or an amount.

?Do you treat patients in Spanish?

Yes. All In One Specialty Health is a bilingual clinic: you can call, be evaluated and do your physical therapy in Spanish or English.

?Does PIP cover massage therapy?

No. Florida PIP medical benefits do not include massage therapy or acupuncture, no matter who provides them (§ 627.736(1)(a)5). Physical therapy can be covered as follow-up care with a referral, within the limits above.
